Cambodia Flags
(Flags and Their Histories)

Cambodia had went through lots of civil wars during the last few decades, therefore, the flags had been changed from one regime to the next.

1993 - Present   Kingdom of Cambodia

cambodia flag

On 30 June 1993 the old 1948-1970 flag has been reestablished as the flag of Cambodia.

1992-1993   (Under UN Administration)

I'm not quite sure about this yet. But from what I remember, the same 1989-1992 flag still in used. But there is another flag below which also had been introduced in some occasions.

Cambodia was under the UN administration (UNTAC = United Nations Transitional Authority in Cambodia) from February 1992 to September 1993. The mandate included aspects relating to human rights, the organization and conduct of elections, military arrangements, civil administration, maintenance of law and order, repatriation and resettlement of refugees and displaced persons and rehabilitation of Cambodian infrastructure.

1989-1992   State of Cambodia

On May 1st, 1989 a new flag was introduced. At the same time, the name of the country has altered from "People's Republic of Kampucha" to "State of Cambodia".

1979-1989   People's Republic of Kampuchea

In January 1979, Khmer Rouge was disposed by Heng Samrin's forces and in help of Vietnamese troops. The flag was used until 1989 in the country, but was not recognized by the UN and international.

1975-1979   Democratic Kampuchea

In January 1976 the "Democratic Kampuchea" has introduced a new flag. This flag was used until January 1979, when the Khmer Rouge government was deposed. However, it continued to be in use in abroad, and also at UN headquarters, until 1991.

1970-1975   Khmer Republic

On 9 October 1970, Lon Nol has introduced a new flag after overthrew King Norodom Sihanouk in 1970. This flag was used until April 1975.
